He was born April 16, 1949, in Ravenna, Ohio, to parents Huey Edward and Nettie Faye (Truax) Scarlett. Jim married his beloved wife Susan (Stout) on May 23, 1970, and then left for the Army shortly after.
Jim loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed boating and water skiing in his younger years. He retired from the Chrysler Twinsburg Plant and enjoyed working on his classic cars and tractors.
Jim was a former member of Brady Lake Baptist Church. When he wasn’t outside, he enjoyed music. Jim played the guitar, banjo, fiddle, keyboard, and any other instrument he could find. He liked country, bluegrass, and gospel music.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife Susan Scarlett, his sons: Bryant Scarlett and Jeremy (Crystal) Scarlett, his grandchildren: Amber (Reyj) Servin, Steven Scarlett, Aaron Scarlett, Jonathan Freshour, and Tiffany Scarlett, as well as his great-grandchildren: Caden and Ryder Scarlett. He is also survived by his siblings: Paula Morrison, Jeanne Benson, and Shane (Jean) Scarlett, along with generations of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Joey, Denny, Lonnie, and Terry.
Friends and family will be received Thursday, October 10, 2024, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, where funeral services will be officiated by Pastor Brent Joy on Friday at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Park.
