He was born March 15, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, to parents Frank and Elizabeth (Wyrick) Kieffer. John worked directly with the youth in the Portage Geauga Juvenile Detention Center. He retired in 2011, only to return as a part-time employee working on policy and procedures. John was a quiet and gentle man, but had an intense passion for everything that he loved. He enjoyed computer games, his dogs, playing chess, and was an excellent cook. Most of all, John loved his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years Helen (Robakowski) Kieffer, their daughter Eustacia (Michael Jr.) Green of Grand Rapids, Michigan, grandchildren: Maeve and Michael III Green, sisters: Mary Rose Kieffer and Verna Milota, as well as his dear aunt Mary and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received on Thursday, January 9, 2014, from 6:00 – 7:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Pastor Shannon Blower will officiate the memorial service immediately following at 7:00 PM.
