He was born April 11, 1941, in Ravenna, Ohio, son of the late James H. and Hallie (Eidson) Culler Sr. James is survived by his wife Judith (Shutler) Culler, daughter Kate Culler, granddaughter Meghan Kathleen Culler, sister Jean (Ron) Hartley, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Jim graduated from Ravenna High School in 1959 and later from Hiram College, certified as a secondary teacher in social studies. He taught at Brown Junior High and later Ravenna High School for many years. Jim coached football and served as an athletic trainer, specializing in sports medicine.
His passion became girls softball as the coach of Ravenna High’s team, and later as the treasurer for the Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association. This organization provided clinics for softball coaches and many scholarships for high school softball players. He retired as treasured in 2010 due to health problems. Jim was also a longtime member of the Ravenna Elks Lodge 1076.
Friends will be received Sunday, March 18, 2012, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, where funeral services will be officiated by Reverend Wayne Enders on Monday at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
