Edward S. Kappes, age 74, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2022, after a courageous two year battle with cancer. Ed was born on April 7, 1948, in Cleveland, Ohio, to parents Sheldon Von Kappes and Grace (Ducker) Kappes.
Ed’s family moved to Streetsboro in 1958, where he attended school, graduating in 1967. While in school he enjoyed playing football, basketball, and hanging out with his friends while also working various jobs.
He began working at Terex in Hudson in 1969 and continued to work for General Motors in Columbus, Lordstown, and Parma from where he retired in 2001 after 32 years.
Ed enjoyed working in his garages on his cars, motorcycles, and puttering around on different projects. If you needed something fixed, Ed was your go to guy. He was usually the first guy to offer his help if you wanted something done. Ed and his wife liked to ride their motorcycle, travel, working around their house, and spending time with family and friends.
Ed is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife of 40 years Patricia (Misner) Kappes, daughters Kimberly (Mark) Peters of Ravenna, OH, Carrie (Avion) Soto of LaVeen, AZ, and son-in-law Steve Chasar of Chandler, AZ; grandchildren: Zac and Mac Alboreo, Aubrie (Adrian) Vasquez, Logan (Samantha) Peters, Ashley Peters, Marcus (Monica) Peters, and his “Bestest Buddy” granddaughter Emily Peters. He is also survived by his brother John (Debra) Kappes and sister Melinda (Dan) Marple, sisters-in-law Beverly (Russ) Romano and Rebecca Anderson, along with his nephew, nieces, great-grandchildren, and many friends that will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Stephanie Chasar, and brother David Myers.
