I will think of you every time the wind blows through the wind chimes with the serenity prayer engraved. Even in your death you did more than most people can accomplish in a lifetime. I will always remember my 3rd year anniversary of sobriety sleeping at your bedside. It was my best anniversary being able to finally be of service to you through one of many of Gods hidden miracles. And I want to thank you for my best friend Regina. I don't know what I would do without her and the kids. I love you Debbie. Caden and Bella love you too.

Regina, Erik and families-- so sorry for your loss of Debbie. She was an original with admirable energy, work ethic and great sense of humor. I know she made me laugh and put me at ease within 5 min of meeting her! For Debbie, A Living Irish Wake
I remember when I was ten years old and I had to attend my first funeral. I was apprehensive, so my mother told me that when she was about my age she went to 3 or 4 wakes in one summer. I said how horrible that must have been and she replied with a bemused smile, "Not at all, it was one of the best summers of my life!" A few hours after I learned of Debbie's death, reflection over the six days of vigil in her home revealed to me that just maybe, I was part of a very long, six day "Living Wake." Family and friends alike recounted many stories, some new-most old, near all funny and heartwarming, telling of the unique character of Debbie. For five of those momentous days, Debbie was aware of life around her and developed her own simplified manner of communication.
A squeeze of a hand, her raised eyebrows. Short near whispered words into the close ear of a sister, niece, a friend. Her sphere of influences was in every room, as people I had never met before became kindred spirits in our mutual love for her. I began to suspect that this wake of hers was being conducted by her and God- I am not sure who was in cahoots with who, only that this was a dynamic team.
Laughter, I believe. out-weighed the tears, as only a wake can do. Her whispered labored words were filled with wit and humor, humility and pride. though totally confined to a hospice bed in her own bedroom at home, she communed with each and every person present for five days. Grandma Jo's Rosary hung from around her neck next to a necklace that someone made long ago with a plastic cross attached on it's end. the story goes that she spotted that artifact in the jowels of a stray dog, that surrendered it to her without a fight. She held on to it for nearly 50 years. And adorned simply as she was, draped in homemade quilts received as past gifts, head upon a pillow and surrounded by a room full of story tellers, it was the perfect, "Living Wake."
I saw things, I saw people step outside of themselves, I saw sacrifice as pure love. Treks high above the clouds and over mountains, drives on highways through those mountain gaps as family travelers sped through miles to be part of this Debbie experience.
So now finally, I fully understand mom's smile when remembering her summer of wakes. And this God-given gift of a "Living Wake" of Debbie will like all of God's gifts, continue to give to us in ways that will heal, ways that will console and ways that will strengthen our resolve, for now she truly walks with the lord and prepares our way.

When arriving for one of the frequent family functions one always knew if Debbie had gotton there before you. Her voice and laughter outrang the rest of the family. (And that aint easy) She had always been the outspoken organizer and cheerleader for the family that I have so luckily married into. Her charisma and sheer energy rubbed off onto all. The selflessness she showed could sometimes be frustrating. Never thinking about herself and what she had been going through, but what she could do to make things better for all around her. What a blessing to know that Heaven has acquired yet another angel.  Rest in peace Debbie.

Debbie, nothing is quite the same without you.  In family get-togethers I keep waiting for you to chime in with something.  Nothing.  It feels empty. When you found out that I had cancer you came running over with bags of groceries for us.  You made us both cry.  Then I realized how much it perked you up to forget your troubles and concentrate on us.  I will always remember the fun and talks we'd had and I miss you greatly. I have so many memories of my sister. The one that stands out the most sums up all I know of her. Her humor, her strength and ability to manage and work. So began my first taste of work...
Many many years ago when Judy, Sherry and I were only known as "the three little girls", Debbie managed to convince us that big girls need to work. So began the foundation of our work ethics.  Debbie was our supervisor (not exactly those words) we not only consented but we did so with great enthusiasm, taking over dish duty. See this was a dreaded task in our family of twelve plus any stray person that happened to make their way to our dinner table.  Mind you this was a time before microwave dinners, paper plates and "pop" cans that you can just throw away.  Our Mom cooked real meals with real dishes, pots, pans and lots more dishes.  Reddin up the dishes, wash and dry. What Debbie didnt realize is how clever we "three little girls" were, see if we didnt do it right which we purposely didn't the more time we got to spend with our big sister. To this day, I still prefer reddin up, wash and dry the dishes. 
The memory of days before her passing, will blaze in my heart forever.  The love that surrounded her by her family and friends. She looked more beautiful than I ever could have imagined.
To my family your love, strength, protection and care for her during this time made her journey to peace possible.
I will always love you Debbie and I miss you more than I can ever possibly express. I look forward to your visits in my dreams. Love your sister Nadine

We can't describe you how much we miss you and you are always in our thoughts.  You were a great mother-in-law and brought up such a terrific son who I will always love with all my heart.  Thank you for everything!  Love you!

I don't know how our family will ever manage without you but I know we have to because to do less would be to let you down and I don't ever want to do that. You showed us all  how to live and die with dignity, strength and even humor.  I pray I have even a tenth of the courage you showed when my time comes and I will be satisfied as you raised that bar so high. I love you and thank you so much for all of the lessons you taught even when you probably had no idea you were teaching them.
