She was born June 16, 1954, in Binghamton, New York, to parents Richard and Marion (Houck) Carpenter. She was affectionately known as Clair to family and friends. Clair graduated from Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania, with her Masters in Social Work.
Her life was focused on helping others. Clarice was a critical care technician with her ambulance team, as well as Ambulance Captain. Earlier in life she worked as a Respiratory Therapist at Wilson Hospital. She later became a Social Worker with Broome County Child Welfare.
Clair loved being a grandmother and also loved caring for her pets, including her cat Max, and her dog Thunder.
She spent over 30 years as an officer for the UKC/AKC coon dog clubs, and helped organize events and field trials. She also owned and trained English Coonhounds. Clair also was a voracious reader.
Her memory will be cherished by her children Rebecca Knight and Terrance Abbott Jr., and his wife Tara. Her stepchildren Michelle Grant, her husband Doug, and Mercedes Strawn, and her partner Chris. Her grandchildren: Gabriel, Alyssa “LT”, Rory, Daniel, Ronan, Darius, Douglas, Sonora, Vayla, and Farrah.
She is also survived by Skip Strawn her partner in life for 31 years, as well as her Mother and Father in-law, Georgene and Clarence Strawn.
Clarice’s memory will also be cherished by her ex husband and life long friend of over 50 years, Terrance (Terry) Abbott.
