It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that we share that our dear father, Dr. Yash Pal Kataria, is no longer with us. He departed peacefully and without pain, during a late afternoon nap. He was our biggest cheerleader, the patriarch of our entire Kataria Family and a kind, loving father who loved to play golf. Our hearts are broken and we are trying to find our way forward.
Dad left a great legacy as a physician, world class researcher, and incredible person. He served on faculty at Brody School of Medicine for over 40 years as Professor of Medicine. Dr. Kataria was a critical care pulmonologist and pioneer in treating people living with Sarcoidosis. He loved his research and practicing medicine. During Covid, he continued to see patients virtually
from his home in Raleigh. He lived a life of kindness, respect, and peace. He was optimistic and cared deeply about people and their passions.
He loved gardening, reading books and the monthly book club discussions at his senior club, having dinner with his friends and working with other people to build great organizations and serve his community. He was part of the founding faculty team at East Carolina University School of Medicine in 1978 when he moved from Columbus Ohio (Ohio State University to Greenville, NC. He became one if not the first pulmonologists in eastern North Carolina and built up his section, eventually becoming Section Head, then Vice-Chair of the Department of Medicine and eventually Chair of the Department of Medicine. He was also one of the founding members of AMDAANA (Amritsar Medical and Dental School Alumni Association of North America), The Hindu Temples of both Raleigh and Greenville as well as NCIAP. Through everything he was involved in, he helped create a better, stronger, and more compassionate world.
We miss his dinner discussions, love for music, South Korean netflix series, his sense of humor and most of all our family dinners, which he loved to make.
He is survived by his Daughter(Anjali Kataria), Son (Neil Kataria), son-in law (Vinay Bhargava), daughter-in -law (Lynn Kataria) and 5 grandchildren: Pallavi Bhargava Arjun Bhargava, Shaan Kataria, Dev Kataria, and Lara Kataria.
The family will be receiving visitors at their family home in Raleigh on Monday, 12/26 evening from 7pm -8:30pm and Wednesday, 12/28 evening from 6-8pm.
The Funeral and Cremation Service is planned for December 28, 2022.
A Memorial Service in celebration of Dr. Yash Pal Kataria’s life will be held in Raleigh, NC on December 29, 2022. For questions or more details pls reach out to: [email protected] or [email protected].
