CARY, NC: William M. Kirven was born on April 16, 1929 in Cheraw, South Carolina. He passed away on May 10th, 2011 in Raleigh, NC. He was the son of the late Gadie J. Kirven and Mattie Quick Kirven Boone. He graduated from Hamlet High School in Hamlet, NC and attended the University of North Carolina where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He was predeceased by his first wife, Orine Dixon Kirven.
He is survived by his wife, Claire Tolar Bass Kirven; daughter, Kathy Kirven Moore and her husband Roy Moore, of Richmond, Virginia; son, Karlton Kirven and his wife Laura Gibbs, of Knoxville, IL; two grandchildren, Zachery Kirven and Carly Kirven.
He was Past Master of the St. David’s Masonic Lodge in Darlington, South Carolina and a member of the Wake County Shrine Club. He was a longtime member of Benson Memorial United Methodist Church where he taught Disciple Bible Study for many years.
The Kirven family extends its heartfelt appreciation to April, Virginia, Kristy, Dianne, Chase and the Rex ICU staff for their compassionate care.
Visitation will be at Benson Memorial United Methodist Church (4706 Creedmoor Road, Raleigh, NC 27612) on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 1 PM. A celebration of Bill’s life will follow at 2 PM.
A graveside service will be held at Grove Hill Cemetery (405 South Warley Street, Darlington, SC) on Friday, May 13, 2011 at 1 PM. Visitation will precede the service at Belk Funeral Home (229 West Broad Street, Darlington, SC 29532) at 12 Noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Benson Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund.
