Howard was born in Raleigh on March 20, 1935 to Howard and Ora Lee (Wright) Haithcock Sr. He graduated from Millbrook High School in 1953 and married his high school sweetheart, Kathleen Turner, on June 9, 1956. Kathleen (Kat) passed away earlier this year on March 16th. They had been married for 67 years.
Howard worked as a brakeman for the Seaboard Railroad until his retirement due to injury. He spent his retirement years playing golf, traveling with his wife and spending time with his family, especially his four grandchildren. He also was very excited to welcome his first great grandchild this past June.
Howard is survived by his five children - Melinda Haithcock, Annette Vickery (her spouse, Vic), Kim Freeman, Bill Haithcock (his spouse, Susan) and Chuck Haithcock (his spouse, Dana); his four grandchildren - Cory Freeman, Bryce Freeman, Dylan Freeman (his spouse, Bryce) and Roy Vickery; and his great grandchild, Luke Freeman. He is also survived by his sister, Theda Woodlief and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Howard will have a family graveside service on December 14, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27612. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a local charity in his honor.
Howard will be greatly missed but he is happy to be rejoining his beloved wife, Kat, as they had been together since they were teenagers. May he score a hole-in-one in all of his heavenly golf matches.
