Uma Chugha, 75, beloved wife and mother, passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2021. She went peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on 26 June, 1946 in Lucknow, India to the late Asita and Maya Chatterjee. She graduated from La Martiniere School and attended Isabella Thoburn College. She worked as an administrative assistant at Duke University and Plano Medical Center.
She infused joy into the world through her optimism, kindness and generosity. She loved to cook and feed others. She exemplified Sathya Sai Baba’s value of Love all, Serve all. She volunteered for more than 17 years with the UNC Hospitals Cardiac Rehabilitation Center and was awarded the Elaine M. Hill Award for Distinguished Volunteer Service in 2018.
She is survived by her husband, Giridharilal Chugha; her daughters, Sangeeta Varanasi and Preeti Chugha; son-in-laws, Ravi Varanasi and Ashley Richardson; her grandchildren, Sai Varanasi, Ram Varanasi and Carina Richardson; and brothers, Deepak Chatterjee and Sumant Chatterjee.
