Stephen Timko died peacefully on November 5, 2022, at the age of 94 in Raleigh, NC. He was a big man with a big heart. Born on June 28, 1928, in Carteret, NJ, Steve was the son of John and Mary Timko. An exceptional athlete, Steve played football and basketball for Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, which is where he met and married the love of his life, Dolores (Julie) Timko. He served in the U.S. Navy, stationed in the Panama Canal Zone, and later earned his MBA from New York University.
Steve had a successful business career, first as a CPA, then as an Administrator at Temple University, an executive at Beaunit Corporation in Raleigh, and a member of the Board of Directors at Highwoods Properties. After retiring, he spent his time golfing, appreciating classical music, reading the Wall Street Journal, traveling with his wife, and enjoying his family.
Steve was the heart of his family. An adoring husband, loving father, and doting grandfather, he liked nothing more than channeling his inner child and going down the water slide or body surfing in the ocean with his grandchildren. Steve was a devout Catholic and active participant at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
Steve is survived by his wife of 70 years, Julie Timko, and daughters Andrea Timko Weiswasser of Washington, DC, Stephanie Timko Hilton of Rocky Mount, NC, and Patricia Timko Sinclair and husband, Bill, of Manhattan Beach, CA. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Anne Weiswasser, Emily Weiswasser, Teresa Hilton Cox and husband Kyle, Katie Sinclair and Stephen Sinclair.
He was predeceased by four siblings and son-in-law, Michael R. Hilton.
The family thanks the staff at The Cardinal at North Hills Skilled Nursing, Transitions Life Care, and his caregivers, especially Fatou, Afsaneh, Carolyn, Cozette, Deanna, and Kimberly for their exceptional care and love.
A funeral mass was offered at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2718 Overbrook Drive, Raleigh, NC, on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 1:00pm. Burial followed at Raleigh Memorial Park.
