Stephen D. King, of Raleigh NC left us on July 29th, 2017. He passed at home, just steps away from his prized garden full of tomatoes and cucumbers. Steve was a man of many talents and passions. Making and appreciating music was a particular mainstay in his too short life. Creative since childhood, Steve was an award winning graphic designer and gifted photographer. He loved art, a cold craft beer, real SC peaches, a steamy bowl of pho, camping, science fiction, guitars and amps, cigars, tiki collecting, MASH reruns, and the sea--he could never get enough of the ocean. He was a man of many passions, too many to name. But he could tell you all about the cosmos, nature, US history, tomato nurturing, beer making, capturing the perfect sunset photo, rehabbing a Mid Century credenza, and woodworking, a hobby he acquired just months before his departure when his health prevented many of his other interests. He wanted to stick around to learn more about that and the wonderful things in life he was yet to discover.
He had so much love for his son, his wife, his parents, his brothers, his cousins and extended family and his huge group of friends including his Othermothers brothers. No doubt he is rocking out with Danny on the other side already. He was a kind, funny, curious, loyal, authentic man, the kind of guy who would build you up to accomplish your best. He could often be heard making his signature special effect noises, subbing words of radio songs, creating nicknames for his beloved “furry muzzles”, blurting out his distinctive laugh and calling for “Lovey”, one of his many sweet names for his wife Pam. It will be quiet around here without him and a lot less interesting, but Stephen and his beautiful youthful spirit defined the term, “gone, but never forgotten”.
He is survived by is wife Pamela, his son, Ian, father, Larry (Marjorie) King, mother, Joyce Hooker, brothers, David (Lani) King and Michael (Karen) King.
In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The V Foundation or Transitions LifeCare.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 6th from 2-4 pm at Mitchell Funeral Home 7209 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27612.
