The family wishes to thank the wonderful staffs at Hospice of Wake County, Wake Med and Raleigh Rehab for their care and comfort.
Pretlow was the musician of our family. Every summer as a teenager his band played at the Oriental Sailing Social, but the height of his music career was when Pretlow’s band, The Whigs, opened for The Dave Clark Five. Though he was never able to pay the bills with his music, he never stopped playing. Whether with his friends or in the small studio he built beside his home, his passion for creating music never left him.
His other passion was historic building which became his vocation. From family houses in Oriental and Atlantic to Raleigh and Franklin County he worked to preserve the work of earlier craftsmen.
However, he felt his greatest legacy, are his beautiful daughters, Elizabeth and Rosa.
He is survived by his wife, of 36 years, Elizabeth Scott Winborne; his two daughters; his father, Judge Samuel Pretlow Winborne; his brother, Hughes and two sisters, Ferne and May.
A gathering for family and friends will be held Saturday, May 14th from 2pm to 5pm at the Historic L. L. Polk House, 537 N. Blount St., Raleigh.
Flowers are welcome at 520 Cleveland St., or memorial contributions to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle Raleigh, NC 27607.
Arrangements by Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Saint Mary’s St. Raleigh, NC.
