Ruth moved all over the country with her husband while he served in the Air Force, and loved being an Air Force wife. After he retired, they moved to Raleigh in 1966. They soon became members of the newly formed Benson United Methodist Church. She has been a member of Does Drove 168 and the Raleigh Elks Lodge 732 since 1970.
Ruth was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother who was always involved in many things. She enjoyed being a Girl Scout troop leader, Sunday school teacher, a professional cake decorator and teaching cake decorating classes all over Raleigh. She loved many different crafts, was a wonderful seamstress and also was great at upholstery, having re-upholstered many chairs over the years for her church and the Elk Lodge. Alongside her husband, she truly enjoyed gardening. They even had a greenhouse, allowing their green thumbs to produce many wonderful plants and flowers. Ruth loved the beach and always enjoyed vacationing at their beach property. She loved to travel during her husband’s time in the Air Force, but especially traveling to places around the world like Poland and Alaska.
Ruth is survived by her children, Sandra Rogers and her husband, Steve, of Branson, MO, Donna Pernell and her husband, Everette, of Wake Forest, NC, Teresa Clawson, of Zebulon, NC, Richard Haws, Jr. and his wife, Diane, of Wake Forest, NC, and Jane Little, of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Tressa Pernell, Shawn Kebel, Tim Kebel, Jennifer Clawson, Richard Haws, III, and Ryan Haws; and five great grandchildren.
