Robert John Merlo

He is lovingly remembered by his dear wife of 62 years, Shirley Merlo; his 4 sons, John Merlo and wife Linda, Bob Merlo, Paul Merlo and wife Mary and Gene Merlo and wife Laurie; his grand-daughters, Suzanne, Jennifer and husband Byran, Kelsey, and Lindsey. He will also be deeply missed by his sister, Delores Merlo and his brother, Ralph Merlo. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Josephine Merlo.

Robert served in the US Navy, and was awarded with the Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal. Robert graduated from Wayne State University and received his Masters of Education from the University of Detroit. He was a dedicated teacher and educator for over 30 years with the Detroit Board of Education. Upon retirement, Robert and his wife, Shirley, enjoyed travelling across all 50 States and places throughout Europe. Above all he loved to dote on his dear grand-daughters.

A memorial mass will be held at 12:00 pm, on Monday September 24, at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow at the church columbarium.
