Bob was born August 22, 1928, son of the late Ralph and Vera Lowry in Oklahoma City, OK. His sister Patsy Ruth Westerman preceded him in death. He attended and graduated from Putnam City High School where he was a member of the football team and was an honor student. Following high school, Mr. Lowry served with the United States Army. He then graduated from Abilene Christian University in 1949 with a degree in Speech and Dramatics. There he met his wife, Mary Virginia Bell, who was the love of his life. Together they raised four children, Richard, Stephen, Timothy, and Mary Ellen.
Following graduation from ACU, Bob worked with IBM for 28 years and during that time he received his Master’s in Education from North Carolina State University. Mr. Lowry was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ were he was an Elder.
Bob is survived by his wife, Ginny, who has stood by him wholeheartedly during their 62 years of marriage and his brief, but devastating illness. His sister Carolyn Jane Rogers lives in Norman, OK. He is also survived by his sons Richard A. Lowry and partner Lee Ann Eischen, Stephen D. Lowry and wife Denise T. Lowry, Timothy G. Lowry and wife Deborah Lowry, daughter Mary Ellen Lowry, and foster son, Johnny Daniels. Mr. Lowry is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Bob will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, July 15, 2011 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home on Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on July 16, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Raleigh Church of Christ on Barringer Drive.
