Rebecca Marian Ross

Rebecca Marian Ross, 38, died early Sunday morning, January 8, 2023, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC, after suffering a fall and a head injury the day before. She was surrounded by her mother, father and stepmother when she passed away.

Rebecca was born in Greensboro to Rosanne Kreml Ross and William Goley (Bill) Ross, Jr. Rebecca attended Greensboro Day School and graduated from Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg, VA.

She was a loving, compassionate young woman who bore the burden of a difficult disease which challenged her yet did not diminish her sweetness and thoughtfulness. Alcoholism impacted her life but did not claim her essential goodness.Rebecca’s family was first and foremost in her life. She loved nothing more than family beach trips, and she had a wonderful sense of humor and a gift for caring for everyone. Rebecca was always first with a Happy Birthday phone call. She had an engaging manner with older people and young ones, and small gestures of kindness were a hallmark of her life. She had a special passion for taking care of people, both family and friends and the patients in assisted living facilities where she worked. Rebecca fought mightily against a relentless disease and her family never faltered in supporting her.

Left to cherish Rebecca’s memory are her parents Rosanne Ross of Greensboro and Bill Ross & Susan Gravely of Chapel Hill; her sister Amanda Ross of Aspen, CO and her partner Doug Parks; her aunts and uncles, Betsy & Steve Frazier and Libby & Willard Ross, Raleigh, Claudia and Alan Knopp, Crestline, CA, Pam and William Sagan, CA, Melanie and Mike Rummel, Illinois, and Heather and Jim Michalke, Wisconsin; her cousins, Hannah Ross Clarke (Jeff), Ferebee Frazier Plyler (Will) and their children Marian and Bill Plyler, Raleigh; Alyssa McKown (Jason), Charlottesville, VA, and Michael French (Kim),Warminster, PA.

Rebecca’s loving family also includes Kim Frazier, Raleigh,Page and Roman Gravely, Middleburg, Virginia, Frances Gravely, Chapel Hill; Lee Frankstone (Helen), Raleigh, and Susan Hargett (Shaw), Stafford, VA.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Marian and Bill Ross, Raleigh, Lee Gravely, Rocky Mount, and her aunts Susan Cable Ross, Raleigh and Donna Gravely, Middleburg, VA, and her uncle, Steve Gravely, Pittsboro.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, January 13, 2023 at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh.

In lieu of flowers and in remembrance of Rebecca’s life, because of Rebecca's love for animals, the family asks that charitable donations be made to the SPCA of Wake County, 200 Petfinder Lane, Raleigh, NC 27603.
