Rachel Yolanda Turner, 68, passed away on Friday morning, September 17, 2021 at PruittHealth-Trent in New Bern, North Carolina. Born on November 19, 1952 in Person County, NC; she was the daughter of the late Claude Randolph Duncan and Rachel Yarbrough Duncan.
Rachel grew up on the family farm in Person County, loved the farm animals, 4-H and embraced hard work. She was a strong academic student, graduated from NC State University and joined the US Air Force as a commissioned officer. After the service she pursued a career in the libraries at NC State and UNC Law School. In 1991 she moved to Houston, Texas where she married an engineer in the oil industry. After her husband died in 2013 she returned to NC and lived in Apex and Pine Knoll Shores.
She is survived by her brother: Claude Kirkwood Duncan Sr, his wife Bonnie, daughter Tabatha, son Claude Jr and daughter Ashley Ambrose; and by her brother: Dwight Hillman Duncan and wife Lorena.
She will be remembered for her love of reading, quick wit and chocolate pecan pie.
