Peggy Horton Burke

Peggy Horton Burke, 89, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2012, at her residence. She was born on April 2, 1922, in Blackstone, Virginia, beloved daughter of the late William W. Horton and Onnie M. Kirk Horton.

Peggy graduated from Wendell High School. She married the love of her life on February 4, 1950, John Burke and together raised two children. Peggy loved gardening, and enjoyed ballroom dancing at the Arthur Murray studios with her friends. Above all, her true passion was being a dedicated loving wife and mother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is lovingly remembered by her dear children, son, Johnny Burke and his wife Betty Sue, of Raleigh; daughter, Jill Barnette and her husband Henry, also of Raleigh; granddaughter, Karen Safley and her husband Tim, and her great grandchildren, Lawson and Anna Safley. She was predeceased by John, her husband of 34 years and her five brothers, Hathan, Milo, Newland, Danny, and Truett Horton.

The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday, March 6, from 6:30 – 8:00 pm at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s Street, Raleigh NC. The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Wednesday at the Chapel of the funeral home. Interment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Gardens.
