Dr. Paul N. Dixon, 71, passed away on Monday evening, October 26, 2015 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC in the loving presence of his family. Born on August 17, 1944 in St. Louis, Missouri; he was the son of the late Roy Nichols Dixon and Dorothea Matthews Dixon.
Dr. Dixon’s career in educational psychology spanned numerous positions within the University System. Beginning at the University of Texas – Austin, as a civilian researcher with the US Air Force, having tenure at Texas Tech, onto Kent State University as Department Chair, to Associate Dean of the College of Education at the University of South Carolina, to his last position as Dean of the College of Education at the University of North Texas, retiring as Dean Emeritus.
He is survived by his son: Graham and Sasha Dixon, of Pullman, WA; daughter: Lily and Paul Goodwin, of San Diego, CA; step-daughter: Olivia Dobranowski, of Raleigh; siblings: Laura and Tom Merritt, of Dublin, OH, Barbara and Allan Drewa, of Houston, TX and Michael Dixon, of Houston, TX; and by other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister: Susan Dixon.
A Celebration of Paul’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at 2 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home (300 St. Mary’s Street), with a reception to follow. Paul preferred that memorial contributions be made to your local boys and girls club. (www.wakebgc.org for the Wake County Area in NC)
