She was born in Charlotte, NC to the late Cecil and Vada Kale on January 5, 1941. Pat graduated from Biltmore High School in 1959. She married the late David Brewer, Sr. in 1960. They had five children and lived together in Asheville for their entire married life. Pat resided in Asheville for more than 40 years. She worked at the Biltmore Estate for over 10 years in a number of positions. She enjoyed her last job at the Gatehouse Gift Shop where she educated visitors about the Estate and various Biltmore wines.
Pat relocated to Charlotte in 1995 to be closer to her sister and sister-in-law. She worked for 10 years at Carolinas Medical Center. She took advantage of the opportunity to travel and that remained one of the highlights of her life. She spoke often of her visits to family out West and the Pacific Northwest, as well as trips to Canada, New England, Europe, the Bahamas, and Mexico. She was especially fond of her vacation to Hawaii.
Pat was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers, and her daughter, Anne Renee. She is survived by her sister Yvonne Manning and her husband Tom, of Huntersville, and her brother Richard Kale of Bellingham, WA. She is also survived by her son David Brewer; her daughter Kristina Cavagnaro and her husband Jerry Cavagnaro of Asheville; her daughter Susan Shah of Raleigh; her daughter Ashley Novak and her husband Seth Novak of Spartanburg, SC. Additionally, she is survived by her beloved grandchildren Sam and Ben Cavagnaro, Maya Shah, and Stella Novak.
Pat moved to Raleigh in 2005 to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She remained there until her passing. She was a beautiful, unique, and strong-willed woman who fought hard for her life up to the very end. She will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 16 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s Street in Raleigh. A celebration of Pat’s life will be held at the home of her daughter at 1905 Park Drive in Raleigh immediately following the service.
