Nancy Blackburn Barnes

She was born in Sparta, NC on May 11, 1942, the second of three children, to Walter H. and Retha Duncan Blackburn who preceded her in death. Moving to Raleigh at a young age, Nancy graduated from Millbrook High School in 1960. She was married to David Gail Barnes on May 13, 1962 until his death in September of 1994.

Nancy owned Robert's Florist in Raleigh until her retirement and then joined the family business, Blackburn Mobile Home Estates with her brothers.

She was survived by her daughters, Tracy Barnes Grady and Cathy Barnes Brown; Son in law, John Brown; grandchildren, Tina Grady, Ian Brown and Evan Brown; Brothers and Sister in laws, Gary and Mahlon Blackburn and David and Terry Blackburn; nephews and nieces and their families.

The visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 17th at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC at 1 pm. The funeral will follow at 2pm in the Chapel at Mitchell Funeral Home. The graveside dedication will follow at Raleigh Memorial Cemetery.

The family is grateful for the loving care provided by Dr. Elizabeth Campbell, MD and the staff at Duke Health, formerly the Cancer Centers of NC and for the gentle hospice care provided through Transitions Life Care.
