Morgan James McLamb, age 37, passed away peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior, on Thursday May 23, 2013. Morgan was born on September 18, 1975, in Denver, CO, beloved son of Rose Marie McLamb and the late James Milton McLamb. Morgan graduated from Needham B. Broughton High School in 1993 and from North Carolina State University with a B.A. in Criminal Justice in 1997. He married Amy Sies in 2003 and they lived together in Raleigh, NC.
Morgan was dedicated to his career as a Senior Firefighter with the City of Raleigh Fire Department. He truly loved his job and had an indisputable work-ethic. His servant’s heart showed in his passion for community outreach and education, as well as his desire to care for others. He will be remembered by his brothers and sisters in the Fire Department for his positive attitude, no matter the situation as well as for his infectious energy and smiling face.
Morgan never thought of his battle with cancer as a burden, encouraging those around him not to hate the cancer - telling them “don’t hate, hate hardens.” He also inspired many people to join his fight and raise money through team “Fired Up For Morgan” at Duke’s annual Angels Among Us 5K and Family Fun Walk in April.
Morgan’s driving forces were his faith in God and his love for his family. He was passionate about living a life filled with the Spirit, and was an active member of Potter’s Hand Bible Church in Apex, NC. He lived out his Faith, not just in the walls of his church but also in every aspect of his life. He loved listening to music, and praise music was the song of his heart for God. Another way Morgan showed the love of “his” Jesus everyday was through fostering a strong and close family. Though his family was spread from Colorado to North Carolina and beyond, he held each member of his family close to his heart. On a given day, he could be found at breakfast with his Mom, at the park with his children, or having coffee and fellowship at the local Starbucks with one of past or present co-workers. Morgan’s expression of family was defined by both relation and relationship, forming bonds that blurred the lines of friendship and family.
Morgan is survived by his wife, Amy, his daughter, Avery, age 4, and his son, Carson, age 2. He also is survived by his mother, Rose McLamb, of Raleigh.
The family will receive friends and family on Monday, May 27, from 4:00-8:00 pm at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 28 at Providence Baptist Church, 6339 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh. Private graveside services will follow at Alamance Memorial Park, Burlington, NC.
Memorial donations can be made in Morgan’s name to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215. Donations to the “Morgan J. McLamb Children Education Fund” can be made at any Wells Fargo Bank branch location. The McLamb family will be the sole beneficiary of all funds.
