She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Clark Ashworth (Bob Mack) and son, Dr. William Lloyd Clark (Catherine). She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Caroline (Russell), Kristen, Braxton, Chrismon, and Hudson who fondly referred to their grandmother as “Emmy”. She is also predeceased by her parents Rufus Grayon Lloyd and Mildred Poole Lloyd.
Emily was born January 6, 1941 in Raleigh, N.C. at Rex Hospital. She was baptized and married in Forest Hills Baptist Church in Raleigh. She was a graduate of Needham Broughton High School. She attended Queens College in Charlotte and then transferred to UNC Chapel Hill where she completed her undergraduate degree in math education. She also enjoyed her membership and friendships in the Kappa Delta Sorority at UNC. For the next ten years, she devoted her life to starting her family. She was a wonderful mother to us, and she instilled her love of learning and the importance of kindness and good manners. For the next 27 years, she was a proud middle school math and science teacher in Wake County Public Schools. Most of her teaching career was at Oberlin Middle School (formerly Daniels Middle School). Later in her teaching career, she earned her masters degree in math education from NC Central University in Durham, N.C.
Throughout her life, she was passionate about her love of cooking, playing bridge, and traveling with friends and family. After her retirement from teaching, she achieved the honor of Life Master in Competitive Bridge. During the last five years of her life, she lived in the senior living community at the Oaks at Whitaker Glen. She loved spending time with the staff and residents at the Oaks where she was always smiling at Bingo and other social events. We will certainly miss our mother’s sense of humor and contagious laughter. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the many wonderful caregivers that our mother experienced in her last years. We would also like to express a special thanks to her caregiver, Phillida Boye who provided a constant source of love and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in her name to Saving Grace Animals for Adoption NC (13400 Old Creedmoor Rd, Wake Forest, NC 27587) due to her love of animals as well as the Raleigh Rescue Mission (314 E Hargett St, Raleigh, NC 27601) and White Memorial Presbyterian Church (1704 Oberlin Rd, Raleigh, NC 27608).
