Mary Alice Gay Brown

Mary Alice Gay Brown, passed away on September 20th, 2016 just four days before her 89th birthday. Born on September 24, 1927 in Whitakers, NC; Mary Alice was the daughter of the late William Salone Gay and Lucy Sue Wells Gay. She graduated from East Carolina and taught secretarial skills prior to having her two sons.

Mary was a charter member of Benson Memorial United Methodist Church and was the church secretary for many years with her late husband, Coy Brown. She helped her husband, then the cub and assistant scoutmaster to Troop 214 and enjoyed knitting.

She is lovingly remembered by her sons: Tim and Cyndy Brown, of Mooresville and Tony and Sharon Ann Brown, of Rougemont, NC; grandchildren: Audrey Brown and husband Peter Ortblad, Olivia Brown and Ethan Brown; siblings: Evelyn and Robert Glover, of Rocky Mount, Emma Lou and Marvin Pippin, of Scotland Neck, Peggy and Ret. Lt. Col. Clarence Brown, of Williamsburg, VA and Rudolph and Kathleen Gay, of Rocky Mount; and by other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and by a brother, Marvin Gay.

Family will receive friends on Sunday, September 25th, 2016 at 2 pm in the Raleigh Memorial Park Mausoleum. Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 pm in the Mausoleum Chapel, with interment to follow within the cemetery.
