Martitia "Peggy" Gurley Thompson

She was born in Princeton, NC on February 24, 1937 to the late Carl Roberts and Martitia Holt Gurley, Sr. She graduated with the Princeton High School Senior Class of 1956. She was a former employee of Gurley Milling Co. in Princeton. On February 16, 1958 she married Clarence Merlin Thompson and shared 62 years of life together. She volunteered as a Junior Girl Scout Leader, 20 years as voter prescient worker, Sunday School Teacher and Wake County Guardian Ad Litem Services.

She is a member of Green Pines Baptist Church in Knightdale, NC. She is a former member of Princeton United Methodist Church and former Longview United Methodist Church in Raleigh, NC.

She is survived by husband Clarence Merlin Thompson; daughters Teresa Fogleman Duffell (Marty), Evelyn Denise Reynolds and Karen Leigh Thompson Stapleton; Grandchildren Clay Thompson, Brad Andrews (Mary), Adam Taylor, Amy Caroline, David Gray, Mary Elizabeth and Nathan Glenn Fogleman (Julia); Emma Grace Duffell; Melinda Reynolds Adams (Scott); Perry Lee, Jr. (Amanda) and Clarence Daniel Reynolds (Moriah); Rachel Leigh Lynn (Wesley); Emily Marie, William Holt and Thomas Michael Stapleton; Great-Grandchildren Brinley Ann, Emerson Virginia and Wade Chambers Fogleman; Mason Lee and Asher Stuart Adams; Charlotte Mae, Braelyn Claire, Amelia Tate, and Paxton Elliott Reynolds; Step-Grandson Christopher Martin Duffell, Sr.; Step-Great-Grandchildren Madison Lynn and Christopher Martin Jr. Duffell; Sisters: Imogene Gurley Capps (Elmer), Connie Gurley Oliver (Doc II) and sister-in-law Pat Gurley.

She is predeceased by her parents and brother Carl Roberts Gurley, Jr.

Rev. Dr. Marty Duffell will officiate at a private family memorial service at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home at 300 Saint Mary’s Street Raleigh, NC. Burial will be in Princeton Cemetery on Donnie H. Jones Blvd Princeton, NC. The burial service will begin on July 29, 2020 at 12:30 PM. The public is invited to the cemetery service. Please wear masks and keep social distance.
