Mark Rollin Ransom, 58, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2016, at home surrounded by family. He was born on May 11, 1958, in Boston, Massachusetts. He was the son of Vena Ransom Scott and the late Dr. Rollin Main Ransom Jr. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Wayne and Ann Eason of Raleigh, NC, and paternal grandparents, Rollin and Alice Ransom of Windsor, CT.
Mark graduated from Father George B.S. Hale High School, Raleigh, NC, in 1976. He earned his B.A. in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Go Heels!) in 1980. He served as a Graphic Designer in the College of Engineering at N.C. State University for 27 years. Additionally, Mark provided technical illustration and mechanical layout services to a variety of clients on a freelance basis. Mark was honored to receive an award from NASA for his design work on the Orbital Debris Radar Calibration Spheres Project.
Throughout his life, Mark was an advocate for hunger relief efforts and protection of natural resources in North Carolina and beyond. Some of Mark’s life-long interests included hiking in the NC mountains, snow skiing across the U.S. and Canada, and an appreciation for a wide variety of music.
He is survived by high school sweetheart and spouse Sheri A. Green; mother and step-father, Vena and Brian Scott of Rocky Mount; brother Christopher Ransom (Brenda) of Raleigh; sister Laura Epting (Doug) of Raleigh; uncle and aunt, Clifton and Linda Eason of Greensboro; cousins Lance Eason (Linda) of Austin, TX; Beth Folta (Joe) of Cicero, NY; niece Rachel Epting of Charlotte; niece Madison Epting of Charlotte; nephew Daniel Davis (Tara) of Clayton; niece Melissa Ingram of Raleigh; great-nieces Kayleigh, Morgan and Addison; and his puppies Lucy and Luke.
