Lynn Watlington Robinson

Lynn Watlington Robinson was born in Morganton, NC on January 31, 1925 to Priestly Vance and Carrie Stout Watlington. She graduated from Morganton High School where she was salutatorian, student body president, and flutist in the marching band. At the age of sixteen she went to Duke University where she graduated with a major in economic theory and a minor in statistics. After graduation, she worked for various accounting firms in Wilmington and Raleigh. In 1949, she married her beloved husband Jerrold. They shared much happiness until his death in 2006. They had two children Jerrold Stacy Robinson, Jr. (wife, Tina), and Laura Robinson Wadlington (husband, Bill); and two grandchildren, William Herring Wadlington and Joseph Vance Wadlington, who loved them dearly. Her sister was Jean Watlington Stanley of Holden Beach, N. C.

Lynn was known to all for her keen intelligence, open mindedness, and kindness. She was in many ways the family “torchbearer.” The torchbearer carries the light and leads the way, but often in the shadow while the light they carry falls on others. Both her husband and children know they could not have succeeded without her love and guidance, her encouragement, without her “bearing the torch.” A woman of deep faith, Lynn worshiped at Hayes Barton Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and attended women’s circle.

In addition to her family, she leaves behind special friend Sandy Chappell to cherish her memory. The family is also grateful for a dedicated team of caregivers led by Cynthia Evans who cared for her in her last years. She passed into the next life on Tuesday, March 15, 2016.

A celebration of life service will be held at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 2 pm. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
