Joy M. Lynn was born in Raleigh, NC to Robert and Hazel Mills on September 20, 1935. She is survived by her husband Victor Lynn who currently resides in Wake Forest. Her children are Terry Thomas of Wake Forest, and Dr. Russell Thomas who lives in Willard, NC with his wife Karen; also step-children Kay Bailey and her husband Dean who live in Raleigh and Vic Lynn Jr. with wife Cindy live in Raleigh. She is also survived by 2 siblings, Don Mills of Tuscola, IL and Dorothy Hicks of Clayton, NC. She has 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Joy attended Mt. Vernon Elementary School and Cary High School in Wake County. She graduated from Larry Moore University of Hair Design in Cincinnati, OH. She was a cosmetologist for many years, licensed in 3 different states, and even owned and operated a salon out of her home, “The Joy Shoppe.” Joy taught cosmetology at Sherrill’s Beauty College in Raleigh for many years.
Joy loved to travel and over her lifetime she visited 38 foreign countries, with Israel being her favorite, and all 50 states. She also enjoyed studying Bible Prophecy. She loved music, especially hymns and Christmas songs. During the holidays she could be found with Christmas music playing while she worked around the house. Joy was a very gifted seamstress even winning a Singer Sewing Contest. Joy believed in pouring into the next generation and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. She was also a member of the Gideon’s Ladies Auxiliary. Her main interests though were her children, grandchildren, and her church Grace Assembly of Wake Forest, NC.
Family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon, October 8, 2017 from 1-3 pm at Mitchell Funeral Home in Raleigh. Funeral Services, officiated by Pastor John Thrift, will be held at 3 pm, with interment to follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
