Joseph John Mark, Sr., 85, peacefully passed away into the presence of his Lord on September 20, 2010, at his home. He was born on February 7, 1925 in Simpson, PA to his parents, the late John and Victoria Mark.
He is lovingly remembered by his sons: Richard Mark and his wife Sue of Charlotte, NC, and Joseph John Mark, Jr. and his wife Mary of Eden, NC, two grandsons; Joseph John Mark, III , and Adam Carson Mark. Joe will also be fondly remembered by his loving companion Shirley Plaisted, his brothers; Andy Mark and wife Sara, and Dr. Leonard Mark and his wife Bonnie, his sister Helen Barney, and his many wonderful friends.
Joe is predeceased by his dear wife of 53 years, Josephine Mark, and his brother John Mark.
Joe served the US Navy aboard the USS Black, earning many honors including Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Victory-World War II Medal, American Campaign Medal, Honorable Service Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon. He was an active member of the USS Kidd Association, The Knights of Columbus where he earned his fourth degree, and the American Legion. He had a career that spanned 34 years at Westinghouse, where he retired as a plant superintendent in 1987. Joe loved to hunt and fish and among his favorite pastimes was to cheer on his Carolina Tar Heels and spending time with his family.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 22 from 7:00-9:00 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary’s St., Raleigh, NC 27605. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday September 23 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, downtown Raleigh.
