John Howard O'Connell

A service to celebrate his life will be held in the chapel of Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Millbrook Road on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at 3:00 P.M. with the Reverend Liz Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

John was born on July 28, 1932 in Cary, NC to the late Albert Hirham and Laura Womack O’Connell. He grew up in Wilson, and received degrees from Atlantic Christian College and North Carolina State University. He was a retired educator and owner of Creative Education Institute (CEI).

Survivors include his daughters, Rebekah O’Connell of Raleigh, Melanie O’Connell Underwood and husband, Geoff, of Mooresville, NC; sons, Albert O’Connell and wife, Angela, John O’Connell, Jr. and wife, Karen, and Kevin O’Connell all of Raleigh. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Chadwick and Chandler O’Connell, Mary Christina and Amydell O’Connell, and Elizabeth and Brooke Underwood, and special friend Pat Densmore.

Dr. O’Connell was preceded in death by the mother of his five children, Maxine Stanley O’Connell; sister, Marie O’Connell Raper Greenville, SC; granddaughter, Lindsay Marie O’Connell and son-in-law, Lawrence Harry Weber III.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Raleigh Police Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 27731, Raleigh, NC 27611-7731 in memory of John H. O’Connell.
