John passed away on September 21, 2023, due to heart disease. He was born in Greensboro, NC on December 6, 1943, to John Kucik and Dorothy Henley. John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and loyal friend. After his father’s service to his country, he was raised in Pennsylvania and went on to graduate from Penn State University before receiving a master’s degree from Rochester Institute of Technology. He spent almost 50 years working in engineering, management, and real estate.
John was a history buff, avid reader, and collector of coins, model cars, and trucks. He loved watching and talking about sports, especially Penn State and North Carolina State. He donated to numerous charities, was quick to mentor and support others, and to reward anyone who provided a service. He attended Holy Cross Church and served on the Vestry as Junior Warden and the Building Committee. He also enjoyed the fellowship and Bible Study of the Men’s Breakfast group.
John was preceded in death by his parents and only sibling, his devoted sister, Jane. He is survived by his wife, Sue; sons, Joe (Lorraine), Jim (Megan), Jay, and Jeffrey; his grandchildren, Katie, Mason, Kevin, Abezu, and Harper; three nieces and a nephew. As the son of a coal miner, he was very proud of the fact that his parents were able to send him to college and of the successes and accomplishments his sons and grandchildren are able to enjoy.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the Church of the Holy Cross (2301 W. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC). The service will be officiated by Reverend Jon Minns beginning at 11:00am, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall.
