Joanne Lewis Quate, 77, formerly of Cary, NC and retired to “Camp Nana’s” at Smith Mountain Lake, VA passed away Friday, May 30, 2014. She was born August 3, 1936 in Henrico County, VA to the late James M. and Alma Lewis.
Joanne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and best friend. Her Smith Mountain Lake home was always open to family and friends where she enjoyed years of pleasure and companionship with all those who knew and loved her. Her example of tremendous emotional strength combined grace, beauty and elegance were constant reminders of what greatness one person can reach. She saw potential in all things and showed everyone around her how to do the same.
Her bright blue eyes and shining smile will forever live on in our hearts.
Joanne is survived by her husband, David Quate of Union Hall, VA; son, Rusty Quate and wife Cathy of Wake Forest, NC; daughters, Cindy Mann and husband David of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Mendy Clayton and husband Scott of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Beth Mills and husband Robbie of Fuquay-Varina, NC, and many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Brenda Yack and husband Roger of Ferrum, VA and so many others who truly knew and loved her.
Joanne is predeceased by her parents; and sisters, Katherine Seamster and Barbara Richardson.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC and the family will receive guests and friends one hour prior, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Burial will immediately follow in Raleigh Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, Make-A-Wish, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, American Lung Association, Disabled American Veterans, or the charity of your choice.
