On Saturday May 2, 2015 Jane Roberts Futrell entered heaven having left an enormous impact on countless lives here on earth. Born August 20,1933, Jane was the only child of the late John Roberts, Jr. and Catherine Greene Roberts.
It’s exciting to imagine the celebration taking place as her Savior welcomes her home with a loving embrace and whispers in her ear, "well done good and faithful servant!"
We rejoice in the fullness of her life even to her last days. Already, we miss her smiling face and unmatched wit, but we are comforted knowing she is with her Savior, free of pain and certainly introducing herself to everyone in heaven. She is now the social butterfly of heaven!
She was pre deceased by her wonderful husband, Archie Wayland Futrell Jr, originally of Nashville NC. She is survived by her children: John R. “Chuck”, Mike (and Carey), Rob (and Genia) Rogers and her husband’s children Julia (and Phil) Gaddy, Archie Futrell III (and Betty) and Betty (and Michael) Lambert. Mom (Gammy) was especially proud of her grandchildren: Robert, Hunter, Anna, Lauren and Cole Rogers, Rachel Elias, Sarah, Allison and Joshua Lambert.
Mom was passionate about serving other people and never seemed to meet a stranger! She spent over 50 years as a faithful member of White Memorial Church where she taught Sunday school, led bible studies for her circle and served many years as a volunteer receptionist. She was a former member of the Junior League, a founding member of the Epicurean Book Club and loved more than anything her time spent building relationships in her bridge clubs.
Mom quickly made friends and was deeply committed to her long term relationships! When meeting someone for the first time, she took a genuine interest in their life. She always looked for the good in people taking every opportunity to encourage. We could never have imagined a better example of a mom, had a better picture of what unconditional love is or how to selflessly serve others. Our selfish longings to have more time with you will be replaced by memories of joy and laughter that will carry us forward. Thank you for giving us our sense of humor, our example of how to love and our desire to serve others every day. Years ago friends gave you the nickname Sweet Jane! Today we say Sweet "Wonderful" Jane because you were just that, to everybody.
A memorial service to celebrate Jane's life will be held Tuesday, May 5th at 2:00 pm at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Rd., Raleigh. A reception will follow at 4:00 pm at the clubhouse of The Cypress of Raleigh, 8801 Cypress Lakes Drive, Raleigh. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through woundedwarriorproject.org.
Arrangements by Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Saint Mary's St., Raleigh. Condolences may be sent through www.brownwynne.com.
