James Berry Townsend

Jim was born on March 27, 1960 in Roxboro, North Carolina. Jim graduated from J.O. Sanderson High School and received an Associate Degree in Business from Hardbarger Junior College.

He was the owner of the family furniture business, Furniture Mart, in Dunn and Raleigh. He enjoyed playing cribbage with his longtime friend and "brother", Eric. Jim and Eric were "brothers" in both cribbage and life and won or placed in many cribbage tournaments. Jim won the National Cribbage Tournament in 1997.

He is survived by his sister, Ann Townsend, and brother, Steve Townsend, and extended family and many friends who cherished him deeply.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at 2:00pm at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC, 27609. Pastor Heidi Seifert of Christ the King Church in Clayton will officiate the service. The family invites friends to join in a reception at the funeral home immediately following the service.

Jim cared so much for others, especially children in need. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are welcomed in Jim's honor to St. Jude's, or your favorite children's charity.
