Jim was born January 30, 1927 in Raleigh to the late James Oscar Holt, Sr. and Marjorie Sadler Holt. He was a graduate of Needham Broughton High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of the ATO Fraternity. He served his country in the US Air Force during World War II and later worked in the banking industry in Durham, NC, Greenville, SC, and Naples, FL.
He is survived by his brother, Dr. Townsend V. Holt and his wife, Jane of Florence, SC; daughter, Liza Miller and her husband, Byrd of Spartanburg, SC; son, James Oscar Holt III and his wife, Ellen of Vienna, VA; three grandchildren, Brad and Kate Miller; and Emily Holt; nieces, Kimberley Querey of Wilmington, DE; and Melissa Hinton of Charlotte; nephew, Townsend Van Holt, Jr. of Florence, SC; cousins, Betsy Capps of Charlotte; Midge Wood of Keller, TX; Rick Harris of Naples, FL and a very special friend, Tula Robbins of Raleigh.
Jim was a founding member of the Ole Raleigh Boys and looked forward to their gatherings.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 9, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s Street, Raleigh, NC 27605. Family will receive friends immediately following the service.
