He was born in Trenton, NJ, on February 28, 1940, to Jean (Vona) and John Coll. He was raised in Oxford Valley and Penndel, PA, and graduated from Neshaminy High School in 1960. Jim honorably served in the United States Navy as Machinist’s Mate, Third Class aboard the USS Henry W. Tucker DD-875 from 1960 to 1964 along the Asian coast of the Pacific Ocean. He further served as a Navy Reservist from 1964 to 1966.
He was a Supervisor at Crosby Valve and Gage in Wrentham, MA, from 1967 to 1987, the Owner/Operator of the Sheldonville Variety Store from 1987 to 1990, and an events security guard at Foxboro Stadium and Great Woods from 1990 to 1995.
He was a humble veteran who enjoyed attending reunions with his shipmates. He also enjoyed boating on Mirror Lake in Wrentham, Newfound Lake in NH, and Lake Gaston in NC. Jim was a devoted father and grandfather, attending and participating in family member events and activities such as practices, games and meets, rehearsals, and performances. He was a Wrentham Little League coach for Jamey and Stephanie’s baseball teams from 1979 to 1987, and was an assistant coach for the King Philip Warriors Hockey team from 1985 to 1986. He was an avid sports fan, supporting PA and MA professional teams and the NC State Wolfpack. His hobbies included designing and completing home modifications, home repairs, and yard work at his own home and those of his family, friends, and neighbors. He also enjoyed reading and completing jigsaw puzzles.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Patricia (Dugas) and their children, James “Jamey” Michael Coll, Jr., his wife Leah (Wallace), and children Sydney and Savannah, of NC; and Stephanie Collcrowley and her husband Joseph Crowley, of RI; sister Jean, her husband Frank Homer, and their children. Jim will also be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, other family members, and lifelong friends from MA, NH, PA, and the US Navy. He was the loving Pet Grandparent of Riley and Mafdet.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and siblings John, Thomas, and Jacqueline.
Services with military funeral honors will be held at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA, on Monday, April 11, 2022 at 2pm.
