Born January 30, 1927, in Shamokin, PA, to Clarence Llewellyn and Emily Moody Llewellyn, he was the second of 11 children.
After his father was severely injured in a work-related accident and hospitalized for more than a year, Jack worked a host of part-time jobs—from elementary school through high school--to help support his family. Despite the countless demands of his jobs and family commitments, he was an excellent student. Prior to his graduation from Shamokin High School, Jack joined the US Navy to serve during WWII, working as an electrician on both the battleship USS Mississippi and the carrier USS Midway.
In 1950, he married Vivian Lois Reeder, and they had two daughters. He worked at meat processor Armour and Company and was later hired by the US Postal Service, where he was a mail carrier for eight years. He went on to join the newly created IBM Corporation, initially as a Customer Engineer, rising steadily through the ranks to retire 34 years later as a Senior Product/Market Planner.
Among his many interests, Jack was an avid bowler, once scoring a career-high 299 in competition. He was also a 32nd-degree Mason and an active member of Raleigh’s Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church, where he served as both a Deacon and an Elder. In his later years, he enjoyed woodworking, making playthings for Toys for Tots and building cabinets for Habitat for Humanity.
Jack is predeceased by his wife of 68 years, who passed away in 2018; four sisters, Shirley Shultz, Eileen Dirk, Audrey Huxta and Janice Haines; three brothers, Glen Llewellyn, Carl Llewellyn, and Gerald (Jerry) Llewellyn. He is survived by his daughters, Jackie Wellons (Steve) of Asheville, NC, and Lauren Llewellyn of Raleigh; two brothers, Ron Llewellyn of Westerville, OH, and Barry Llewellyn of Mahwah, NJ; a sister, Sandra Domanski of Danville, PA; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, August 1, at Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church, 4921 Six Forks Road in Raleigh.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Saving Grace Wake Forest (savinggracenc.org) or SPCA of Wake County (spcawake.org).
