Henry Carlton Jones, 95, passed away July 25, 2013. Carlton was born in Raleigh NC on April 3, 1918 to the late William Henry Jones and Pearl Wilson Jones. He is preceded in death by his sisters Gladys Jones and Hazel Jones Smith and by his wife and childhood sweetheart Annie Lee Jones also of Raleigh. He is survived by his son Alan Lee Jones and wife, Joanna, by one grandson, Christopher Jefferson Jones and wife Melissa and by three great grandchildren, Deven, Elizabeth and Ava.
Carlton attended Hugh Morson High School in Raleigh until the untimely death of his father forced him to go to work to support the family. He held many jobs before the war including delivering ice, delivering newspapers, stock boy at the Bon Ton grocery and clerk for the State of North Carolina. After the war he worked for State Capital Life Insurance until it merged with Durham Life Insurance where he retired with over 35 years of service.
After serving with the Army Air Corps in WWII and being over seas for three years Carlton returned home to marry and settle down. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Raleigh since 1961 and sang in the choir for most of that time. He loved church music and spent his life worshiping through the music he loved to sing. Carlton also loved to shoot pool, work out in the gym and paint. Later in life he volunteered at the Rex Wellness Center for over 17 years where he made many friends and affected many lives. He was also a member of Sunshine Seniors social club of Raleigh.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Wake County.
