Guy Ray Watson, 90, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by his loving family on September 18, 2021. Guy was born in Belton, South Carolina to the late J.D. Watson and Ruby Wright Watson.
Guy proudly served his country for four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After serving in Texas and Japan, Guy earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Carolina. In June 1956, Guy married his lovely sweetheart, Edna. Guy and Edna were inseparable for over 65 years and raised two devoted daughters, Sharon and Paulette.
Guy retired as the Division Chief Accountant for Uniroyal/Goodrich/Westek, Inc. in 1995 after working 27 years in various levels of accounting, from Senior Accountant to Plant Controller to Division Manager. He was a faithful member of Forest Lake Presbyterian Church in Columbia, South Carolina, where he spent over 40 years teaching and serving as Treasurer, Trustee, Deacon and Elder. Guy devoted over 40 years to supporting the Lion’s Club (Dentsville, North Trenholm and Columbia Northeast Clubs) as President, Treasurer, Secretary, Board of Directors, a member of the Eye Bank Executive Committee and recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award.
Though always eager to serve and provide, Guy was happiest spending time with his family. He was well-respected within his community and possessed a calm strength. Guy was a man of few words, but his words were always decisive, thoughtful and good humored.
