Guy is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Joyce Privette Proctor; daughter Carol Cook and husband John of Boone, NC; son, Guy Proctor, Jr. and wife Wanda of Cary, NC. Grandchildren: Daniel Cook of Boone, NC; Courtney Proctor Whiteside and husband Patrick of Zebulon, NC and Hannah Proctor of Raleigh, NC. He is survived by one brother, Elbert, 99, of Pasco, Washington. In addition to being a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother; Guy was a cherished brother-in-law, uncle, co-worker and friend to many. He was an active member of Ephesus Baptist serving as an usher, Sunday School officer, trustee and the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
Growing up in rural Nash County, NC, Guy learned the value of honesty and hard work. He was the youngest of 7 boys and often spoke of the seemingly unending chores that had to be done on the farm-from priming tobacco and milking the cow (a skill he showed off at a milking display booth at the NC State Fair a few years ago), to a Saturday trip to town to sale his mother’s coveted home made butter. He was close to all his brothers and made an effort to stay close to each of them as they got older. Some of his happiest times were the family gatherings when all the brothers met to share stories, food and laughter. He would regularly contact old friends and co-workers to share stories of times past; something that they valued greatly. Guy was well versed in identifying old cars, classic country music especially Roy Acuff, and turnip “salad” aka greens. He enjoyed sports, especially Little League, fondly remembering every detail of the 1971 West Raleigh Little League State Championship.
Following a 27 year career with IBM, Guy continued to work part time in order to stay busy and have a little “eating out” money. Most recently he worked for Loomis Armored, retiring on September 5, 2022 at the age of 91. One of his former co-workers remarked that “Mr. Guy’s up-lifting spirit touched her like no one else, he was always willing to help others and was so very proud of his wife and family."
