Geraldine Poole Lee

Geraldine (Jerry) Lee, 92, passed away suddenly on October 12, 2024 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, NC, her family was by her side. She lived a life full of love, laughter, and boundless generosity.

Jerry was born in Mayodan, NC on May, 10, 1932 to parents, Leonard J. and Jessie F. Poole. She was the youngest of two girls. She grew up in Asheville, NC and graduated from Lee Edwards High School.

Jerry met the love of her life James Lee in high school, and it was an instant match. The couple were married on February 3, 1951. Together they spent the following years growing and raising their family. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose kindness and warmth touched everyone she met. Her heart was never fuller than when she was surrounded by her family. Each of her children and grandchildren brought her immense pride and joy.

Jerry’s core virtues remained firm until her final days. She was loving and hospitable to her core. Her home was always a place of comfort and togetherness, where stories were shared, and love was felt all around. She had a way of making everyone feel connected and special as she shared the things she loved with them. Our mother found beauty in the simple things in life such as books, beautiful seashells, feathers, bluebirds, watercolor paintings, and a good meal. Times with her were magical! She was so proud of her yard and spent many hours enjoying the beauty of what she and Jim has created. She cared for all the animals, making sure that they all had bread and bird seed every day. Her family lovingly even called her “Snow White” because the animals all seemed drawn to her and would wait at the door for her.

Just three months ago, Jerry’s beloved husband, the love of her life, passed away. While we are deeply saddened by her sudden departure, we find peace knowing that she is now reunited with him, continuing their journey together. Their bond was truly unbreakable.

Jerry is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sister. She is survived by her son: Jeffrey Scott Lee (Susan), son: Joel Allan Lee (Suzanne), son: Jerry (Jay) Burton Lee (Glenda), daughter: Jill Lee Millis (Phil) and daughter: Jaime Lee Shearer (Mikel), 13 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

As we mourn this incredible loss, we also celebrate the wonderful magical life she lived—a life that touched so many and made the world a little brighter.

We are better people because of her and will forever love and keep her in our hearts. Please join us as we celebrate her life on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Triangle Church of Christ, 2103 Page Road, Durham, NC 27703.
