Fadine, a native to Durham, NC., was born on January 12, 1927 to G. Wanie Mitchell and Mamie (Stevens) Mitchell. She grew up in Durham with sister Christine Mitchell (Spring) and brother Roland Mitchell and graduated from Bethesda High School in May, 1944. Fadine married her beloved Warren Harris on Dec 21. 1946 and had 3 children; Dwight Wade, Edward Charles and Carolyn Faye. She worked at Liggett Myers in Durham until she had her last child and later returned to work for the Durham County School system until she retired in 1982. Warren and Fadine were founding members of Hope Valley Baptist Church in Durham. Both were devout Christians. You could always find Warren and Fadine at church when the church doors were open. Fadine taught children’s Sunday School for many year and was involved in many other church activities. She also loved to sing and was able to remember and sing the words to the familiar church hymns and Christmas carols even after dementia took away many of her other memories.
Fadine is preceded in death by her husband Warren Haris, her parents Wanie and Mamie Mitchell and her brother Roland Mitchell. She is survived by her sister Christine Mitchell Spring and her beloved children Dwight Harris (wife Bronda) of Fort Mill, SC; Edward Harris (wife Jeanie) of Pine Knoll Shores, NC and daughter Carolyn Harris DiGregorio (husband Tom) of Raleigh, NC. She also had three grandchildren, Adam Harris (Laurie); Buffy Harris Bruening (Jake), Courtney DiGregorio Morris (Matt) and four great grandchildren.
We would also like to thank Caroline and the staff at Lakepark Family Care Home for their compassion and the wonderful care provided for our mom over the past few years.
A memorial celebration of her life will be held at a later time when it is safe to do so. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association or The Dementia Alliance of North Carolina in her memory.
