Elizabeth “Betsy” Shumaker Massey

Betsy’s life was dedicated to her husband, family and her faith. She was committed to serving others through her gift of hospitality. Betsy also played a key role in supporting her husband, Howard, during his service as District Governor of Rotary International. Together, Howard and Betsy, spent over 52 years in Blacksburg, VA raising their family (Go Hokies!).

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Dr. P. Howard Massey, Jr.; three daughters, Betsy Alls (Curtis), Carol Wiswall (Stuart), and Suzanne Shoemaker (Mike); 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her three sisters, Frances Rhyne, Peggy Braswell and Elaine Wilks. She was preceded in death by her brother, James Huste.

Services will be held at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 7600 Falls of Neuse Rd., Raleigh NC, on Wednesday February 11, 2015 at 2:00 PM. Her family will receive friends preceding the service at 1:00 PM at the church.
