Elizabeth (Lib) Pate Johnson, age 84 of Raleigh, NC passed away on August 20, 2015. She was a devoted spouse, mother and professional. Together with her husband, they were a blessing to many. And while she faced many physical challenges during her last years, we take personal comfort in knowing that she is now resting with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Elizabeth Johnson was a graduate of East Carolina University and worked as a Home Economics Teacher, Guidance Counselor, County Extension Agent, Community Planning and Development Specialist, and a Computer System Analysis before retiring on Disability due to an accident. She established the Elizabeth P. Johnson scholarship fund at ECU for aspiring undergraduate students working in the Child Development and Family Relations area of study.
Her community activities included the NC Association for Coordinating Interagency Statistics, Pitt County Nutritional Council, NC Consumers Counsel, American & NC Home economics Associations, NC Mental Health Association, Quota Club, and Woman's Club. Her Honors included The World Who's Who of Women, Who's Who in Computers & Data Processing, and National Social Directory. While in Greenville, NC, she was active in establishing Oakmont Baptist Church in 1964, of which her husband was the co-founding pastor. While in Raleigh, NC, she was actively involved with both Tabernacle Baptist Church and Providence Baptist Church.
Elizabeth Johnson is predeceased by her husband, F. Milam Johnson, PhD and her parents Bishop and Elsie Pate of Patetown, NC. She is survived by her three children and their families. Frankford M Johnson (son) and his wife Sue H Johnson; F. Melvin Johnson (son) and his wife Angela L Johnson; Nathalie J Morse (daughter) and 6 grandchildren, Sarah Johnson, Matthew Johnson, David Johnson and his wife (Christi), Samuel Johnson and his wife (Elizabeth); Lindsey Morse and Rachel Johnson.
Funeral Arrangements will be handled by Brown Wynne Funeral Home at 300 Saint Mary’s Street, Raleigh, NC (919) 670-2285. Visitation is Friday, August 28, 2015 at 10:00 am, with the funeral service at 11:00 am.
