Edward John Rainey, 78, passed away at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham, NC on Tuesday (October 18, 2016) following an extended illness. Ed was born on February 28th, 1938 to the late Joseph & Susan (Bowler) Rainey in Lynbrook, NY.
Ed proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, then retired as a Sergeant with the Lynbrook, NY Police Department after twenty years of service. Ed then moved to Loon Lake, NY and worked in the Log Home Industry for another twenty years. Ed enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling, watching sporting events and police shows.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his loving wife of 41 years, Maureen; sister, Lillian; brothers Richard and Joseph and Grandson Austin.
Ed is survived by his sons, Edward J. Rainey (wife Donna and Grandson Ryan) of Chapel Hill, NC, William M. Rainey (wife Jennifer and Grandson Jack) of Virginia Beach, VA, James P. Rainey of New York, NY (Grandson Lucas) ; sister, Muriel Connerton of Naples, FL, and a host of family and friends.
A mass will be held at 12 noon on Saturday November 5th, 2016 at Holy Cross Catholic Church @ 12600 Marsfield Ave, Orlando, FL 32837, followed by funeral service at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Gotha, FL. Family will then be inviting all guests to Rainey home in Orlando.
In lieu of flowers, Ed’s family would ask donations be sent in his name to :concernsofpolicesurvivors.org.
