Ed was born January 8, 1919 in Delaware, Ohio to Edward and Mabel Moeller. He had one sister, Dorothy. After attending Delaware Willis High School, Ed enrolled at Ohio State University where he excelled on the basketball team. In the middle of his Senior Year, Pearl Harbor changed everything and he enlisted in the Army immediately upon graduation. He went on to fight in Europe and returned home after the War in 1946. While overseas Ed continued his basketball career with the Army. After returning home, he signed a contract to play professional basketball with the Youngstown Bears of the NBL.
On September 4, 1948 Ed was married to Maxine Crone of Youngstown, Ohio. Their son Mark was born 4 years later and daughter Marcia was born in 1956. The family moved to Canfield, Ohio where he became active in the Community, including serving time on the local School Board. Following his retirement as a salesman and commercial artist with a printing company, he and his wife Maxine retired to North Carolina to be closer to their children. Ed enjoyed time fishing, playing tennis and walking on the beach.
Ed is survived by his wife Maxine, son Mark Moeller and his wife Kathy of Raleigh, grandson Drew Moeller and his fiancé Kalyn Kaminski of Winterville, NC. He was preceded in death by his daughter Marcia Moeller in 2014. The family would like to thank Lisa Ginsburg of Transitions LifeCare and Julie, Margaret, and Vicky for their special care given to Ed.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 14 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s Street, Raleigh, NC. Visitors will be received beginning at 11:30 am followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00pm. Ed will be buried with Military honors in Youngstown, Ohio.
