Doris Bizzell Wilkerson, 91, passed away on June 19, 2018 after a battle with Alzheimer's at the Kitty Askins Hospice Home in Goldsboro. Born on May 15, 1927 in Newton Grove, NC; she was the daughter of the late Adlai Bizzell and Florence Williamson Bizzell.
Doris attended UNC Chapel Hill and was a pharmacy technician at Rex Hospital. It was there that she met Ira Ottis “Jim” Wilkerson, Jr., the Hospital Administrator, marrying in 1951. Doris then enjoyed 23 years at a Kindergarten Teacher at Ridge Road Baptist Church.
She was an avid book reader, gardener and traveled to many countries. A member of Edenton Street United Methodist Church since 1951, Doris was a Sunday School Teacher and mentor and belonged to the women’s circle. She was a proud recipient of the Long Leaf Pine.
Doris is survived by her daughter: Ellen Radford and husband Rodney, of Clayton; son: Bill Wilkerson, of Raleigh; grandchildren: Emma Radford and Will Wilkerson; and by other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and four siblings: Walter Bizzell, Oscar Bizzell, Ruth Warren and Louise Edmundson.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 22nd at 11 am at the Mausoleum Chapel of Raleigh Memorial Park (7501 Glenwood Avenue). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kitty Askins Hospice Home – 107 Handley Park Court – Goldsboro, NC.
