Doris Oakley Cheek

Doris Oakley Cheek,90, passed away on June 24, 2015. She was born in Alamance County, NC to the late Ernest F. Oakley and Emma Oliver Oakley. Doris is preceded in death by her husband, James A. Cheek, brothers, Sonny Oakley, and Lynn Oakley, sister, Celia Spoon.

Doris will always be remembered for her strong faith. Family was so important to her and she always wanted to make sure everyone else was "ok". Her attention to detail was so valuable, and her humble demeanor only complemented all the work she accomplished.

She is survived by her sons: William Bryan Cheek and wife, Charlotte, John Christopher Cheek and wife, Hitomi; brother, Reid Oakley, sister, Frances Woody; grandchildren: Jenny Jackson and husband, Rick, Will Cheek and wife, Taylor, and Alex Cheek; great-grandchildren: Jennings Cheek, Emma Cheek, Kate Jackson, and Pierce Jackson.

The family will receive visitors at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh on Friday, June 26, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at North Raleigh United Methodist Church, 8501 Honeycutt Rd., Raleigh, NC 27615 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Sunrise at North Hills. The care and compassion they showed will not be forgotten.
