Dear Williams Family,

There is not a day that goes by that I do not think of David and the sorrow that your family is going through.  I was one of David's nursing instructors at Blinn College in Brenham and David was indeed a joy to have in my class.  He was like a son to me having two sons very close in age to him.  He taught me lots of terminology the younger generation uses and I taught him some words of my own from the older generation (baby boomers). We both learned alot.   His smile was infectious and his compassion was truly a blessing from above.  That is an attribute that cannot be taught but acquired from family and their actions and beliefs.

I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to have known David even if it was for a short period of time.  He touched my heart as no student has before and I will always remember him and his smile.

Praying that the Lord will comfort you with His Peace...Surround you in His Love.. and encourage you with His Presence...

Dear Williams Family-

I was one of David's instructors in the Blinn College VOCN Program. I can still remember the day David and Ms. Williams (Wanda) walked into our nursing office once David was accepted into nursing school and they were both checking out the college and looking for a place for him to live. After watching David's sweet and caring interactions with his mom on this encounter, I knew HE was the kind of person we wanted and needed in our nursing program.

David had a smile that could light up any room… I will never, ever forget his smile. He knew when to be goofy and how to have fun but yet he also knew when to be serious… he also knew how to get me off topic upon occasion while lecturing. He was such a pleasant person and it was obvious that he loved life. David also had something that could not be learned or taught from a textbook, he had compassion, and compassion is something which can only come from the heart.  Although he was not “from” Texas, David had a heart that was as big as Texas! He was so very kind to his patients and his love for other people during his clinical rotation was simply amazing. In my experience, it is rare to take such a young person, much less a male, and see that much compassion and love, David had the whole package.

As the semester progressed, it became apparent that David missed his family back home terribly. As instructors, we tried to step up and help fill those “mamma” shoes, but as a mother knows, no one else can really ever fill those shoes. I will never forget the sweet hug David gave me when the semester ended and we parted ways and he returned home to all of you. Our hopes and dreams for David were for him to enter nursing school back home and continue to help others. Part of that dream came true because of your generous gift of organ donation and I have no doubt in my mind that your sweet DJ is smiling down upon you knowing that he is still helping others.

My heart goes out to you and your family.  My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I was one of David's instructors at Blinn College in the VOCN program.  From the very first day- he impressed us with his enthusiasm and kindness.  
He was the ONLY one of the class who got my name wrong on the quiz- calling me Mrs. Davis. He apologized for more than a week...while I called him ANY boys name except David. That is an example of the fun he brought to our lives every day.
He quickly became a great friend to many of his classmates, offering to lend a hand whenever needed.  We spent many hours in the lab- learning and practicing skill after skill- David  seemed to really love the lab time. When we finally got to take care of real patients- this is where he really shone!  He had a genuine compassion for people. 
We knew being away from home was hard on him- and when the semester ended and he returned to you all in North Carolina- we encouraged him continue his quest to help people.  
His Blinn VOCN "family" are deeply saddened by this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with each of you.  David's infectious smile will live on, forever in our memories.

Wanda, Dave,and Tracie-We loved DJ like he was one of ours. That big smile of his would melt anyone's heart.Christmas Eve will always have a special place in my heart, playing poker with DJ and Tracie. That Kitchen chair will be physically empty, but he will always be with us.

May God give your family strength to get through your lost.

Dear Williams Family, 

DJ was a student in my Chorus Department at Daniels for three years. He was a great leader in class and often helped motivate the other kids to stay active and involved in rehearsals. I was so proud to see him go from sitting in the back to helping choose songs and even singing a few solos his 8th Grade year. My husband and I had the opportunity to run into him a few times in the last few years and I am so proud of the young man he had grown to be. I feel honored to have had the opportunity to be his teacher. My thoughts and prayers will be with you.
